Photo Series: Erosion – Hemsby & Happisburgh
Seeing Mother Natures Force
Visiting Norfolk Coastal Towns Damaged by Erosion
Two towns on the North Norfolk coast, Hemsby & Happisburgh, have endured some severe effects of coastal erosion over recent years.
Erosion was one topic that always interested me in geography lessons at school and I had never really seen it in ‘real life’ until I visited these two towns for this photo series.
Seeing the destruction that the water has caused to the coastline and the defences really was eye opening. The sea defence at Happisburgh looked like something from Planet of the Apes. What was originally a barrier to protect the coast, reduced to nothing more than a few scraps of metal sticking out of the sand.
I finished my trip to Happisburgh with a flying visit to Happisburgh Lighthouse.
